Inside this post we’ll share a recipe for our Flavor Bomb Pork Rub.  It’s a simple pork rub made with ingredients commonly found in most kitchens.

This rub pairs well with any type of pork and is ideal for seasoning a pork shoulder to make pulled pork.  You can watch our video recipe, Pulled Pork Baked In The Oven, where we use this pork rub to add a lot of additional flavor to the pork shoulder / pulled pork by creating a crunchy “bark” exterior as it cooks low and slow.

A Simple Rub Recipe For Pork

One of the biggest questions when cooking is:  How should I season this?

Many people refer to pork as “the other white meat” although it is in fact, red meat.  This moniker comes from a hugely successful marketing campaign in the 90’s and because of it’s low fat content.  Some leaner cuts, like loin and tenderloin, have little fat and hence, little flavor.  You will need to add some seasoning to turn up the flavor.

Fatty cuts of pork, like pork belly, jowl, and shoulder naturally already have a lot of flavor because of the fat content.  However, adding seasoning will help develop a richer flavor profile and even some additional texture.  As I mentioned earlier, adding this Flavor Bomb Pork Rub to a pork shoulder will create a really crispy exterior as the fat renders.  This crunchy exterior is known as the “bark” or “burnt ends” and people will tell you that THIS is their favorite part of meat, due to it’s awesome flavor profile.

Flavor Bomb Pork Rub is a mixture of finely ground, dry seasonings and powders which are commonly found in most kitchens.  We created this rub for cooking and smoking all things pork including pork shoulder (butt), pork chops, tenderloin, etc.  This rub includes a touch of brown sugar which will provide a subtle sweet flavor that pairs really well with pork.  May people say that this is their favorite pork seasoning to use for pulled pork!
